Job Description:

Safeguards people or property in an assigned area. He maintains security by regularly patrolling the area and ensures the enforcement of all security rules and regulations.

Responsibilities:

Patrols assigned location on foot.
Monitors entry and exit of visitors and employees.
Checks location for unusual and suspicious activities, theft, fires, peoples safety, etc.
Investigates any security breaches and suspicious circumstances and reports to higher authorities for follow-up and action.
Checks all windows, doors and lights of all the buildings under his zone.
Makes a note of any unlocked windows or doors and reports to supervisors.
Observes traffic and other activities in the assigned location to enforce rules and regulations of the location.
Maintains entry and exit log for visitors.
Assists visitors with directions or any related information.
Escorts visitors or officers to an appropriate destination especially if they are carrying money, important and confidential documents or valuable assets.
Responds to security alarms and takes necessary action.
Checks identification of people entering and leaving the premises.
Writes daily reports, notes any unusual circumstances and any damage to property during his period of duty.
Assists other security personnel in surveillance and crowd control during large events.
Required to work on shift bases.

Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of all inspection procedures for fire, theft, vandalism, etc.
Knowledge of basic security procedures.
Decision making skills in emergency situations.
Knowledge of basic law enforcement regulations of the state.
Knowledge of law enforcement departments.
Knowledge of point of contact of all security related departments such as fire, police, ambulance, etc.
Understanding of all surveillance systems.
Ability to communicate all security related concepts.

Qualifications/Experience:

High school certificate and a certificate in security training.
In some states obtaining a license to become a security officer is mandatory.
Should have one year experience in police or security related field.
